New to the Cabin Branch Community! Summer Swim Team with

Joe Flaherty

as the Head Coach!

Our vision is to create a swim team that has a major role asa vital part of the Cabin Branch community!

1. Helping teens to grow as team leaders and coaches, with a future of emplyment a strong possibility!

After one season at another pool swim team, 22 summer coaches were hired for the following winer season!

2. Developing a large lesson program and Pre-Team so the whole community is safer and has more fun around the pool! For children ages 1-4 drowning is the number one casue of death. Its fast, silent and can happen in the blink of an eye. Swim lessons are a very important part of development and prevention of drowning!

3. Placing a great emphasis on all abilities so that every swimmer is important to the whole program!

4. Stimulating a core of parent volunteer positions!

Parents bond strongly together as volunteers building and serving the community as whole and the children individually. With many years as a coach I have seen the great impact of a stong team beyond the pool! It is beautiful to witness and foster such a wonderful space for growth and friendship!

A bit more about Coach Joe with testimonials:

Joe Flaherty has been teaching and coaching swimmers and swim teams in Montgomery County, MD for more than 30 years. Joe started his career as the head coach for Montgomery County Swim League’s highly successful Flower Valley summer swim team, a position he held for 25 years. He led that team to an unprecedented 20 consecutive years in the “A” division, was undefeated for 16 years of “B” meets, and coached 40 15-18-year-old swimmers in his final year. He founded the Dolphins year-round competitive swim team and program in 1983.

Since then, he has worked with thousands of swimmers, from beginners, to competitive athletes who have ranked among the top 16 in the United States. Joe took one swimmer to Olympic Trials His expertise in stroke technique regularly brings swimmers from other teams to his advanced stroke clinics.

Coach Flaherty’s emphasis is on leadership and character development as much as technique and speed, and many Dolphin alumni have paid tribute to his role in their success as adults. He was the 2005 recipient of the coveted Doc Counsilman Creative Coaching Award from the American Swim Coaches Association. In 2003, he received the Small Business Award from the Montgomery County, MD Workforce Investment Board for his professional coaches training programs.

especially to Jackie Flaherty, who has been a quite noticeable character at swim meets for every
one of the past 49 years.

" Dear Coach,

I am not amazed when things you taught me as a 9-10 year old child come back to me, as the things you taught were, and still are, common sense lessons that build character. I am above all hopeful that the children you coach today will also carry these lessons with them for the rest of their lives. Thanks so much for everything you have done for me andmy family... and the entire neighborhood for that matter."
